ST. CHARLES – Firin’ Up the Fox BBQ Contest will host a class to become a certified barbecue judge from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 11 in advance of the second annual Firin’ Up the Fox BBQ Contest in July.
Graduates can become a certified Kansas City Barbecue Society judge. A Kansas City Barbecue Society representative will teach class participants about the blind judging process and what to look for in the areas of taste, texture, appearance and presentation.
The class size is limited and costs $105 for non-KCBS members (the registration includes a one-year membership and a subscription to the newsletter, the “Bull Sheet” which lists all upcoming contests) and $70 for KCBS members.
A table captain class will also be held from 3:30 to 5 p.m. May 11, providing an opportunity to learn both aspects of the judging process in one day. This class is $65 and open to previously certified judges and people attending the judge class earlier in the day.
