BATAVIA – Batavia's annual block party, A Taste of Batavia, will take place from 4 to 9 p.m. Sept. 1, and is expanding to both sides of the river – N. River Street and the Batavia Riverwalk in downtown Batavia.
“We are thrilled to be expanding this years’ Block Party to both sides of the river for people to enjoy more of downtown Batavia,” director of Batavia MainStreet Joi Cuartero said in a news release. “This Block Party is growing so fast and we hope to continue to provide unique ways for families to get out and enjoy their downtown!”
This year's theme will be "throwback to the '50s." Attendees to the block party are encouraged to dress in appropriate 1950s attire for the event.
The North River Street lineup will include participating restaurants with drink specials and $2 tastings, a classic car show, classic-rock music, a pie bake-off and a Hula Hoop and twist dancing contest.
The Riverwalk lineup will include restaurant drink specials and $2 tastings, live music at the band shell, live musical performances, activities for children and a play area, lawn games, a bags tournament and a classic car show.
The River City Church will host a bounce house, face painting, balloons and a raffle.
Local dance companies Batavia Academy of Dance and A Step Above Dance Academy will perform at the Peg Bond Center. Miss Jubilee and the Humdingers will perform jazz, swing and rhythm and blues music as well.
