ST. CHARLES – The St. Charles Public Library in partnership with the Art Institute of Chicago will present Art and Appetite: American Painting, Culture, and Cuisine at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6.
Virginia Voedisch, from the Art Institute’s Department of Education, will discuss the exhibit which opens on Nov. 12 and runs through Jan. 27. She will present an insightful look at art and the culture of food.
American artists have used food to both celebrate and critique their changing society; express ideas relating to politics, race, class, gender and commerce; and investigate American identity.
Voedisch will examine the many meanings and interpretations of eating in America through paintings, sculptures and decorative arts from the 18th through the 20th century.
The program will be held in the Carnegie Community Room, St. Charles Public Library, One South Sixth Ave., St. Charles.
The presentation is free and the public is welcome to attend.
