“The Importance of Being Earnest,” at the Woodstock Opera House

TownSquare Players, Inc. will present Oscar Wilde’s classic comedy of manners, “The Importance of Being Earnest,” for a three-weekend run at the Woodstock Opera House beginning Friday, March 4. The play, which had its initial performance in London over 115 years ago and is currently in the midst of a Broadway revival, is considered by many to be Wilde’s masterpiece and is a mixture: part satire, part comedy of manners, and part intellectual farce. Artistic director Justin Kozerow has assembled a cast of talented actors from throughout northern Illinois to present a three-act play that is appropriately subtitled “A Trivial Comedy for Serious People.” Brayton Cameron of Wauconda plays John “Jack” Worthing; Alyse “Daisy” Dionne of Cary portrays Cecily Cardew; David Freise of Harvard plays both Merriman and Lane; Paul Lockwood of Woodstock has the role of Rev. Canon Chasuble; Jimmy Lundstrom of Barrington portrays Algernon Moncrieff; Lauren Rynders of West Dundee will be playing Gwendolen Fairfax; Sutton Skowron of Elgin has the role of Miss Prism; Elizabeth “Liz” Tannehill of Antioch plays Lady Bracknell. Staff members for the production include: Lou Czarny, producer/technical coordinator; Kathie Comella, stage manager; Kat’s Kloset, costumer; Carolyne Hurlburt, properties manager; Susanne Powell, set designer/set construction foreman; Jen Prise, lighting designer; Virginia Zymonas, hair, wig, and makeup designer; Jeff McFarlin, lighting technician; Barry Norton, scenic artist. Performances will be held Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. from March 4-20.
